Hello, loving friends and family of our wee girl!
We are so happy to share our day at Disneyland with you next Tuesday, April 25th. Amelia has been gifted four tickets to Disneyland by her kind and giving friends at Our Lady of Lourdes. We decided we would like for you to experience a day in the life of our amazing Amelia.
How to Watch
Technology willing, I will livestream on my YouTube channel at various times throughout the day. We invite you to tune in during the day to see what Amelia is up to. The camera will join us on rides and visit with princesses. We will also explain how the Disney Access Service pass works for people with disabilities. Disney is really amazing at helping people of all abilities have the best experience they can at the park.
Happy to Share
First and most important, we just would like you to share Amelia's joy at all things Disney. Most of you don't get to see her very often. This is a way to experience Amelia! She really is such an amazing girl and her smile and laugh will make your day.
Second, we are going to fundraise for two large, upcoming expenses - to complete the funding for Amelia's new eye-gaze communication device, as well as, contributing towards a larger and more accessible vehicle for our growing girl.
Amelia Needs Your Help
As most of you know, Amelia has lost her verbal abilities. She is still able to express herself with sounds. This new Augmented, Alternative Communication (AAC) device will be a game changer as she learns a new way to communicate her feelings and wants. While the rest of her body is regressing, her ability to use her eyesight to select options on a computer screen will still function for a long time. LAUSD will be funding half the cost of the device, we are looking for funding for the rest. This will be around $8000-$9000.
Any extra funds that we raise for Arms Around Amelia will be used towards the purchase of a new vehicle. If you have seen Amelia recently, you would notice that her legs have grown ... quite a lot. When she has muscle tone issues, her legs refuse to bend for her and they stick out around 90 degrees. And as her disease progresses and she is restricted to her wheelchair more and more for stability, our current vehicle does not suit her needs. We will be looking towards a larger minivan or SUV. We will also need to convert the car so it is accessible for her chair. Car conversion typically runs around $20,000-$30,000. A new larger vehicle will be anywhere from $35,000-$50,000.
