Today is a big day for Amelia. She’ll be having a gastrostomy tube (also called a G-tube, or simply a feeding tube) surgically inserted into her belly. She needs it because currently, she doesn’t eat and swallow fast enough to gain weight, and eventually, she won’t be able to eat at all. We’ll be in the hospital for a few days after, as well.
This is something we knew was going to happen, but it’s still hard to actually go through. Which is why we’re thankful for all the support we’ve gotten and continue to get.
Just in the past week, Girl Scout Troup 6691 (from Kirrily’s school) collectively donated a portion of their funds to Amelia. Also over the weekend, another group of kids from the school ran a lemonade stand to raise money for Amelia’s GoFundMe.
And you probably know about the Rosary Pilgrimage. At least 25 people came to walk with us, and even more prayed from a distance.
It turns out, two dozen people (about a third of whom were little kids) walk slower and pray faster than I do alone, so I didn’t quite have the timing right. We ran out of Hail Mary’s about half way to the church, to my surprise and slight embarrassment.
The important thing is, a lot of people came together and met for the first time because of their love for Amelia.
Amelia’s best friend Ella was one of the participants, and she walked beside Amelia’s stroller the whole way. Her mom has arranged a meal train for us in the coming weeks, as we deal with Amelia’s new feeding situation.
So thank you all for your continued support! You'll never know how much it means to us.
I so wanted to be with you in person last Saturday, but I know you didn't want to risk anyone getting Covid! I said the rosary for your whole family at home. Sending prayers for a successful surgery and an easy recovery.
