Today is the Feast of Saint Pius of Pietrelcina, more commonly known as Padre Pio. As most of you reading this probably know, we prayed a novena to St. Padre Pio last year. I didn’t even realize his feast was coming up! It’s amazing how time flies.
Even in these few pictures, you can see Amelia growing up, and her disease growing worse. She still remains in good spirits, as always!
While God’s plan remains opaque to us, and He’ll do his will in His own time, we can still pray to Him and His saints for a miracle. I haven’t led a novena on this page since last year, so in a couple of weeks, I’m going to begin one to a young saint-to-be, Carlo Acutis.
But that’s for later. Today is the feast of St. Padre Pio, who was, after all, famous for his healing intercessions.
St. Padre Pio
When we first told people Amelia was sick, many, many friends and family reached out to us with their experiences praying for Padre Pio’s intercession. We even met people who had been cured, when we visited his shrine. People gave us prayer card, medals, and even clothing that had touched his relics.
Padre Pio used to say the following novena every day for all those who asked for his prayers. I try to say it every day, too, for Amelia. You can say it with us today, too, with the text below—
Efficacious Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, ask and it will be given you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you.” Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of curing Amelia, so she can run and jump and play, think and talk and pray.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, if you ask any thing of the Father in my name, He will give it to you.” Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace of curing Amelia, and witnesses of that miracle will be brought to the Church.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
O my Jesus, you have said: “Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away.” Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace of curing Amelia, and with that miracle, confirm and strengthen the faith of those who already believe.
Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be to the Father…
Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we ask of you, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender mother and ours.
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.
